CODE
“CODE” is commonly understood as “a system of computer programming instructions,” but at its core, it refers to “numbers or symbols that represent a message or record information secretly or in a shortened form.” This broader definition is the conceptual basis for the project.
By critically comparing the strengths of both new media and traditional print, I developed a deeper understanding of the term “media” beyond its conventional definitions. This led to the creation of CODE, a semiotic movable-type printing system that merges the tactile nature of print with the abstract qualities of encoded communication. The project explores how symbols, material, and medium work together to convey layered meaning.
